The long, Wellsian introduction to the Huxley family and their fascination with Ryhope Wood slowly moves toward a civilized British confrontation with the wilderness and savagery. Unaware of the consequences, Steve Huxley falls in love with the latest incarnation of beautiful Guiwenneth of the greenwoodas his father and brother had before him. When she is kidnapped, his attempt to find her becomes a quest leading to the heart of the mysterious wood. Although it takes its time getting started, and occasionally reminds us that it was expanded from a short story, this is a winning novel with a fine feeling for the interface between airy dreams and sweaty reality.

I tried to read this very young and despite struggling to understand I knew there was something special here and I kept coming back. Changed the way I viewed the Great British countryside and its folklore. A great loss to fantasy. Thanks, and if you enjoy it buy it.

Hello. I am currently attempting to download this title but haven’t seen any seeds yet, it’s currently a few books down my reading/listening list, but I thought I’d give the whole series a go if this first one grabs me. To that end, does anybody know if the rest of the ‘mythago cycle’ is available in audiobook format? None of them (even this one) are available on audible (I keep an account for access to titles I really love and/or can’t find here… this is one of the first series I haven’t been able to acquire there)

Please reseed. I have read a short story that was either a prequel or a sequel to this, so I’m very curious about the book.
Btw the short story is called The Bone Forest.
