A grim classique. A bit tough at times. However, probably not so much when compared to more recent grimdark fare.

This is a great book for people who like to suffer. Poor Thomas suffers through every page until he finally wins at the end of the last chapter. Then in the next book… he starts suffering again. Five stars if you’re a hardcore masochist.

Read the first trilogy in the early 80s, and being young liked it like crazy. It is still a good yarn, but he got much better as a writer after the first book. And grimdark was like bread and butter for a young man in his early twenties (meaning me).

the book had a interesting start but it goes down really fast. Thank god i got so annoyed that i read a summary of the story because i would have been furious if i wasted my time reading them
