Frequently these books are told by characters who are “coming of age”. It is a pivotal time in a person’s life, the first time [too] many people are able to finally be themselves after spending their whole lives puzzling and hiding and fearing. Young adults also happen to be a huge market buying (listening) to these kinds of books as they explore their identities and sexuality. I wish them a hero’s journey.
