Does anyone understand what the 1% lifesteal trait actually does? It makes no sense

You heal for 1% of the damage you inflict.

Heal 1% of all damage dealt, its just so powerful because it counts practically anything. Stepping on grass, cutting a tree and through almost any method of dealing harm. It also heals to beyond perfect health, and was upgraded to triage before doing so.
Doesn’t seem like much, but he uses it in a lot of fairly clever ways.
